About Us

As a locally owned clinic serving Shreveport and surrounding communities, we believe in listening first, explaining clearly, and building long-term trust with the families who place their pets in our care.

Meet Dr. Julie Barnes

Dr. Barnes is the founder of Progressive Pet Hospital and a small animal veterinarian with over a decade of experience in general practice. She established the hospital with a clear intention—to create a privately owned practice where exceptional medicine, thoughtful communication, and a genuinely elevated client experience come together.

Known for her calm, attentive approach, Dr. Barnes prioritizes both clinical excellence and meaningful connection with the families she serves. She believes that the best outcomes are built on trust, transparency, and a collaborative approach to care, and she is committed to ensuring that every client feels informed, supported, and confident in their pet’s treatment.

Her professional interests include preventative care, internal medicine, general surgery, and client education, with a focus on practical, individualized plans that support long-term health and quality of life.

Progressive Pet Hospital reflects Dr. Barnes’s vision of what veterinary care should be—modern, welcoming, and grounded in high standards without losing the personal touch. As a privately owned practice, every decision is made with intention, prioritizing the well-being of patients, the experience of clients, and a positive, supportive team environment.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Barnes enjoys spending time with her family.

Amber has worked in veterinary medicine for over 8 years, gaining experience in a wide variety of roles throughout the field. She is passionate about supporting veterinary teams and providing compassionate, attentive service to pet owners at every stage of their pet’s care. Amber is committed to helping clinics run smoothly while ensuring pets and their families feel welcomed, valued, and well cared for. She looks forward to meeting you and your pets soon.

Ashley

Animals have always held a special place in Ashley’s heart. A Shreveport native, she grew up on the outskirts of town, spending most of her time outside with her animals. She went to college in Batesville, AR where she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Biology, and also began her journey into animal work and medicine. Soon after graduation, she returned to Shreveport to be closer to her family. Since then, she has worked in the veterinary field for 10 years and has developed a deep love and respect for the field and all it entails. In her free time, she likes to spend time watching anime and playing video games with her two boys, three dogs, and two cats.

Crystal

I’m a dedicated veterinary nurse, caring for animals since 2020, following over a decade as a professional massage therapist. I’m passionate about fostering well-being—whether it’s in the clinic or at home with my four dogs. As a wife and mother of two grown sons, I value family, and in my spare time, I enjoy antiquing and connecting with animals. I’m committed to providing compassionate, attentive care to every patient and their family.

Kylie

Kylie has been a veterinary nurse for over 6 years and is passionate about animal dentistry, behavior, and metabolic health. Outside of work, she’s a mom to a toddler, one dog, and two cats, and loves diving into both academic and fantasy books.

Arianna

Arianna is a veterinary nurse with several years of experience working in general practice and emergency veterinary medicine. She is currently completing her studies while preparing to attend veterinary school, where she plans to pursue her lifelong goal of becoming a veterinarian.

She is especially passionate about patient care, client education, and advocating for animals who cannot speak for themselves. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her own dogs, staying active, and continuing to grow in her knowledge of veterinary medicine.
